I,ve had a lot of chickens over the years, but have never really been satisfied with any of them. I want a chicken breed that looks cool, has fairly good egg production, can be used for meat if needed, can be found and easly bought, and tends to be on the more broody side. I looked into dorkings but I had some negative fed back on them. Does anyone know of a chicken breed that would fit me. Thanks

Good egg production?? CHECK (250 eggs per year to be exact):D
Duel purpose?? CHECK:clap
I have had a couple of these over the years, and they are by FAR one of my favorite breeds! They lay many eggs, and when they get to old to lay, you can use them for meat! There temperament is great, and they are good with kids as well!
Hope this helps!!
Good luck!:thumbsup

Ohh. Another breed could be the Golden or Silver laced Wyandotte! Gorgeous chickens:

Thanks so much, I'll look into them. Have you had any go broody and are they known for it.

Yes, my Wyandotte go Broody regularly, I’ve not found them to be friendly , but they are outnumbered by Rhode Island reds ( whom I love )

Here’s a picture of “fancy pants “, when she’s Broody and I’m collecting eggs

Have you looked at Henderson's chicken breeds chart? This might help you to narrow your selection. A bird that appeals to me, might be ho...hum... boring! to someone else. I like: Dominique, EE, Ameraucana, Plymouth Barred Rock, and Australorpe. I've had Doms, PBR and BA go broody. I also have Buck Eye, and am pleased with them.

Ameraucana is a great breed.
They come in many colors lay exotic eggs, blue, are good egg layers and can be used for meat. If you get them from some place that is not a hatchery, they probably will go broody.
