Whats the best kind of duck food?

Quote:
They are kind jerky and lazy at my regular feed place so I wouldn't even bother. BUT... (not sure why I didn't think of this before you said that) I called another place deeper in the country and they carry it. Thanks, you just saved me $$$!!!

The mazuri waterfowl maintence was costing 28.50 abag for the last few years.. In march it went up to 33.75. The feedstore keeps it on hand for our local zoo.

Well, thanks guys! I fed them flock raiser, now they're on Layena.

C&Rman :

I don't have any ducks but my Great Uncle runs a Waterfowl Foundation, and I helped him mix some feed. I thought this was such a great idea that I use it for my peacocks and they love it. His ducks, geese, and swans would come running when they heard him shake the food bowl. Here is what works best for him and I.
*Flock Raiser
*Cracked Corn
*Wild Bird seed
All of these are 50lbs bags then he pours each bag into on big barrel and stirs it with a shovel.
Mix them all toghther and i'm pretty sure any bird would come running to it

I read that cracked corn and seed was bad for ducks? That is was hard for them to digest?

I use Purina Flock raiser, should add oyster shell for my female. Does it hurt the male to also eat extra calcium? Should I be feeding them something different? I have two runner's, male and female?

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on what's best to feed ducks. I guess I am confused and want to be sure I am giving them the best diet. They graze all day in a large back yard with lots of bugs, slugs, worms etc. I offer mixed greens and fruits as treats, but not every day. We don't have a manicured lawn, we just mow it once a week or so. There are lot's of weeds, clover, butter cup, diferent grasses, and other stuff.
