This is a pretty dumb question but after looking online for tips ive found people saying completely diffrent things from 22 C to 60 C

Chicken eggs...

in a still air incubator with no fan... 102F or 38.8 Celsius.

In forced air bator with a fan... 100F... or 37.8 Celsius.

I keep humidity at 40% days 1-18, raise to 60-65% day 18 through hatch.

I hatched hundreds of eggs... this accurate information. :old

Happy hatching! :fl:jumpy:jumpy

Thank you!

Yeah, that 60 C threw me off, that's 140 F.

For storing eggs for incubation the ideal temperature is 55 F or about 13 C. Very few of us come close, I usually store mine around 75 F or 24C as that is room temperature and I still usually get good hatches.

In a still air incubator the most often recommended temperature is 101.5 F or 38.6 C taken at the top of the eggs. Since warm air rises where you take the temperature is important in a still air.

In a forced air it should not matter where you take the temperature since the air is stirred up. 99.5 F or 37.5 is usually recommended.

If you are off a few tenths of a degree C it doesn't matter that much, you should still get a good hatch, at least up to a point. If the incubation temperature is a little warm they will likely hatch early, if cool they can hatch later.

What about temperature spikes? At which temperature will an egg NOT survived if it hit it and sustained for, say, a couple of minutes? Like if temperature spiked to 106 degrees.... at how many minutes with that temperature does an egg get killed, etc?

I think I had a 106 spike in my still air... can't remember at point of incubation, but that will have an impact as to what the embryo can tolerate before it expires. Life has a way!

I had a 50% hatch rate which is very low for me. I'm sure it was more than just a few minutes.

With temp drops for several hours due to power outage midway through incubation, I experienced bent toe type deformities. Can't recall hatch rate for that one.

Thanks! I have been keeping mine at 37 since Sunday. I just changed it to 38.8. I hope I didn’t do any damage. My first try in a home made incubator with eggs bought at a local farm market fertilizer eggs. I hope they’ll work
