Hi everyone, I made a post recently asking about the conditions for my chicken. I believe that one of them has contracted gapeworm.

Can someone please tell me which product I can buy in order to treat it? I've seen other people recommend Valbazen, but I haven't found a product specific for chickens. It says its meant for cattle. Ive also seen other products with fenbendazol, but it was meant for dogs.

Can I use those products that were meant for other types of animals on my chickens?

Please help. It hurts my heart to see my chicken gasping for air.

I used safeguard for goats for my turkey who had gapeworm
There is a poultry dvm website that has dosage info.
For poultry you basically have to use other meds for other animals as there are no fda approved worm medication for it I believe

So it's okay to use safeguard on my chicken even though it was meant for cattle? Can you please link me the dvm website? And if possible can you find a link for the safeguard product?

Yes it’s safe at the right dosage.

When I don’t get an answer on the forum this site is my backup for my babies.
I don’t know the actual website for safeguard but here is the info on TSC

Thank you very much. The dvm site doesn't specify weight of chicken. My chicken is fairly young, she's about 8 months old. She's not developing new feathers anymore but Im worried. Would you happen to know another site or more information for dosages according to weight?

Additionally how often did you give your turkey the medication? Once a day? The dvm website says 3mL per one gallon of water, but how often did you feed your turkey the water?

the safeguard paste for horses dosage is a pea size amount of the paste and repeat in 10 days.
the safeguard for goats which is a liquid you can add directly to drinking water 3mL per gallon leave it out for 3 days and then repeat in 10 days again.
There is a direct dosage if you want to give the one bird the med orally without water but I am not 100% on amount I used Safeguard liquid and gave .20 mL per pound for my turkey but if you do a search through the forums here there are pros that may have a more accurate dosage for a chicken.

I have my bird it once and then repeated about 7-8 days later to get any worms that may have hatched.
The water I read when I was researching you leave the water out for about three day’s as sole water and then repeat 7-10 days later again to get any eggs that have hatched

That site is a great site for some things, but not for de-worming doses. All of the de-worming doses listed there are wrong.

All the info there is wrong, do not use it.

If it's wrong then what is the correct dosage? Can you please provide a resource?
