What's the best way to get rid of raccoons?

I'm thinking that's what got half my flock (around 15 birds) Should I trap, then shoot them? My hubby got a new rifle just to protect the flock.

Call on 2 friends, Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson. Once they have done thier work, you don't need to worry about them again, just theier friends and kin.

Live traps work well. Waiting for them with a gun works if you have the patience, they could be back any time during the night.

Do you want legal or illegal ways to get rid of them?

If you don't kill them they'll be back til your small flock is gone. To them they've hit the jackpot with caged dinner. If you opt to kill 'em do it right. Please don't wound 'em.

i would say the best way to get rid of them would be all of the above, but this kept ours away for a while:

we filled a hotdog with very, VERY hot sauce. extremely hot. when the raccoon ate it, well... he stayed away for a while, but did eventually come back.

I would never have thought of the "hot dog" idea. hey give that a try! Noone gets hurt that way.

BUT If i saw them (the coons) i would shoot them Over and done with.

we used humane traps then shot them. all were mean, but one huge one, and she was huge and pregnant so I pleaded with hubby he drove her miles down the road and released her. Here were are a year and half later, now they are messing with my koi's

One at a time. It is a never ending battle. Take one out and another will eventually fill its place.

Best bet is to predator-proof your coop and run.
