What's the best way to introduce chicks of different ages?

I think that helps. I have a 6 x 6 pen I put the chicks in, but they only hang out in about 1/4 of it. I also use a red bulb in the pen my chicks are in. My chicks can get away from the others if they wish.

What a bummer, Missi. I guess you just never know, unfortunately, if its going to work until it doesn't (or does)

I think space is a key thing. I show my husband all the pics of brooders on here, and he shakes his head. Ours is huge - 2 futon boxes put together. Gives them LOTS of room. I contemplated separating some of my new ones from the older ones last week because they looked like they were getting ran over trying to stay closer the heat, but I added a second light (both at varying levels) and it has helped tremendously.

I'm just not really sure what happened. Their brooder is 7' x 3' x 3' so they have plenty of room. They have several different roosts. A red heat lamp. I guess it was just... I don't really know what it was!! I will definetly be more cautious next time!!

Missi, I'm so sorry about what happened. That must have been very upsetting.

It sounds like it might be better to wait (I don't want there to be any chance of anything happening). Since I've never had chicks before, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how old they'll be when the week difference in their ages won't matter so much. Will they be the same size soon, or will I have to wait until they're all grown up?

Thanks again!
