what's the deal with fart eggs?

My girlies have been laying for a couple of months now, so I know not to expect a whole lot of consistency in egg size just yet. but today my white leghorn left me a teeny tiny little fart egg

I'm just curious why they're so distinctively small

thanks for the post. I got my first eggs this week and they were smaller. My RIR is the oldest but the eggs were so small I thought it must be my frizzels. Today our black sex link laid an egg too. I am so excited. I am going to be swimming in eggs soon. They are so cute being small!
