Hello! This is my first time raising chickens and I've been very entertained so far. They're hilarious and each have their own personalities. My 4 chicks are now just under 9 weeks old, and I'm wondering particularly about the sex of my (Silver?) Ameraucana. I THINK it's a pullet, but I could be wrong... it's the same size as the others, but it's way more hyper and occasionally likes to peck and step on the others while they're trying to relax. It also has a relatively higher tail (although that could just be a trait of its breed) and seems to have more robust/colorful neck feathers (again, for all I know, that could just be characteristic of certain Ameraucana hens). I don't see any spur development. Here she/he is at just over 8 weeks old:

Any thoughts as to its gender? Thanks!

Looks like a pullet to me, but she isn't a Silver Ameraucana. She's a pretty Easter Egger girl. There is a Silver Ameraucana photo on Feathersite:
BTW, spurs do not grow on roosters till they are about 7-8 months old.

Hi,

I raise, breed, and show WBS Ameraucanas so my knowledge of the Silver is much more limited. Having said that, I don't think you've got a Silver there.

She has too much yellow in the neck hackles and the coloration in her back feathering is much more barred than I think it should be. Where did you get your chicks?

My guess is you have a very nice looking Easter Egg pullet there.

God Bless,
