What's the longest power outage and still get a hatch?

OH no! I bet you will still have a decent hatch, although a bit lower than optimal. 6 hours with a low of 70 or so won't be a death sentence although will slow them down. I've had eggs incubating for two days, then sit at room temperature (70 or so) for about 14 hours, then put back in and hatch. Hatch rate was only like 50% though instead of 90+.

OH please let they continue!!! I had some eggs in the bator that I was questioning if there was a contamination problem.. I went against my feelings and easily took them all out and double bagged the so as not to break any and risk a problem. They were in the trash about 5 to 6 hours and then I found out that they would be OK. I rushed out and got them and candled. They were moving a little bit. I put them back in and let them finish and I think I had a 50% hatch rate. These were at about day 10 also. You just never know how things are going to go... Sounds like another game " how many will hatch"..lol Good luck, Jenn

Sorry to hear about your troubles. In december we were out for several hours and it got down to the mid 70's, but they were on day 18 already. I did have several hatch out of 12 that were in the hatcher. I don't know what to tell you either other than to wait a few days and candle them.

JUst a quick queastion here. I am new to hatching but not to power outages and tropical fish. When we lose power the first thing I do when I find out is throw sleeping bags over tanks to help mantain heat. Would this work for a bator? Also I have my empty spaces in the 1202 filled with small water bottels to help stable temps, any one do this?

I had no power for two days a few years back due to a bad storm we had. Then I had half of it hatched out later but they were like three to four days late. I had to maintain the temps due to hot water bottles with towels on them and it kept it going.

I would not give up, Jody, and just do the best you can by doing hot water bottles on the eggs. If you got room on your gas water heater, just wrap up the eggs with double towels and lay them on top of the water heater. It works so far! Or if you got some Silkies, put them in small cages and put eggs under the mommas. I dont know if they are willing but body warmth they can do! Anything will do!

Good luck and let me know how it went!

Oh no! I have my fingers crossed! I am so sorry.

Thanks to everyone for your support and suggestions. I am going to keep going, candle on Sunday and see where we're at with them. Please keep your fingers crossed for these babies. This is just so depressing and heartbreaking for all those little ones I saw wiggling just a few days ago.

Keeping my fingers crossed too.

Hi Everybody,

I'm new here on the board, and new to chickens, but I've been doing parrots
for the last 15 years. So....hi yall

I too had a power failure that was out for 7 hours on a cold day,
and I thought it was going to kill
my embryos, but I just started up the incubator again after power came on and they were
never the worse for it. Amazing! I was shocked. Don't give up, I'll be surprised if you don't get a hatch.

perry, that is reassuring. I hope I get as lucky. I would have expected just about every one of these eggs to hatch since I just candled on Sunday and know there were babies in all the ones I could see in (a few questionable because I just couldn't see thru the shell). I am anxious for Sunday to get here, so I can see if I can figure out how they are doing.

Jody
