I am building a cooler incubator like the one in the FAQ section and was wondering what the pros think is the best thermometer to use. Analog, digital, old style mercury stick? Should I use more than 1 thermometer, say 1 digital 1 analog?I have a reptile humidity gauge that I am going to use and it is rated to be the best of that style so I dont need a thermometer that reads both temp and humidity. Thanks for spending your time on my post

Digital...with humidity readings...also you can use an oral thermometer to check it fast...its very accurate

I use an oral human thermometer to calibrate my digitals by. I have several of the $50 digitals and i don't think any of them read the same.

Ok, that is what I thought too, but I just had someone post me that the oral thermometers are a "contact" thermometer and that they will not be accurate if just laid in the incubator.

They said to put it in water wiggler. It makes sense, but I am still wondering why it has to come into contact with something.
Wall thermometers are accurate and contact nothing...

I use a digital reptile thermometer (Flukers) I got at the local pet store. When I calibrated it I found the temps to be within .5 degrees and the humidity to be 1-2% off.

i use a exo-terra (brand) humidity/temperature gauge in mine, its the kind with the spring and hand. its also a reptile product, but its working for me! i found it at petsmart for 20$. and i have a digital also.

It will be in contact with the air, won't it? And, isn't that what you want to take the temperature of?
