whats the most annoying response you get when people find out you have chickens?

I remember that story!! I think it was called "The Little Red Hen". I have been getting mostly positive responses from people about my chickens, usually they just ask to buy some eggs.

Yeeesss!! That's the one!! I'm going to the bookstore now-my daughter definitely needs that book. :) it's a good lesson for children.

I feel that way often. Some folks find out you have a big garden and then tell me I should bring in some of that 'free food' to share! Free my patootie! I work hard to get what I have, if they want me to 'share' then they can get out here and do some of the work. I've kept kind of quiet about the chickens due to this, but one co-worker is always telling me I need to bring in some of my eggs to share. Ha! I only have 1 hen now and, until the other 3 start laying, what I'm doing is called stockpiling.

If anyone wants my eggs ( when they start laying) they are going to pay!! I already have TONS of people waiting for my chickens to lay.

Yep, it's the "fruits" of our labor lol I'm planning on a winter greens garden this fall and so far I've put more work, time, and money into it than if I was just planning To buy groceries. And that's before the first seed is even in the ground!

I've had similar comments about our garden. We had a door to door salesman stop in our garden and start picking tomatoes! Luckily our neighbor noticed and asked, "what are you doing!?" The salesman's response was, "I'm sure the homeowner won't mind, they're free after all." I did mind! That's a lot of work and I count on those tomatoes for canning. We eat from our garden ALL year.

I can't believe that he would just start picking food!! I understand if a relative came by to visit and had a little tomato or strawberry cuz it's a relative. Come on who can be mad at grandma? But for a stranger I come and start picking the majority of tomatoes!!???

The thing is, I would have been happy to share if they'd asked. After all, who can resist home grown tomatoes! Yum!

I keep a bb gun handy in case of pests, I think this would qualify!
