Whats the name of your chick or roo? this will be fun

This has been a big part of the fun of keeping so many chickens.

Some have food names: Quiche, Eggplant, Triscuit, Souffle, Marinade, Omlette, Nutmeg, Kiwi, Croquette & Parfait.

There's a Brown Leghorn roo named Stetson because of his big upstanding comb, and an Americauna roo named Hawkeye because he watches out for predators. And a half-Polish crested named Kramer because his head feathers look like the hair-do of the Seinfeld character & he has the same wild look in his eyes.

My kids have come up with some great ones: Moogle, Dudder, Puffy, Tito, a hen named Larry and another named Cheese. And a dark brown hen named Tarantula.

There are two Barred Rock hens named Layette & Dinette. A white-spotted black Ancona named Sparkle. Two California Whites named Malibu & Shasta. And a White Rock named Minerva Louise after the storybook hen.

We don't name the meat birds except to call them things like Meatball & Soupy & Dinner, but we've got one mixed-breed who is growing so much larger than the rest that we call him Moby Chick.

Two chickens we found by the side of the road, Rhoda the hen and Homer the homeless roo.

The lavendar guinea hens are named Josephine, Blanche, Savanna, and Minnie Guinea. My boys can tell them apart at a glance.

There was one pullet who insisted on roosting in a tree overnight, since we couldn't find her we named her Hidey.

We'll re-use good names if a feathered friend dies and we replace it with a similar one, do you?

One boy - Henry the white leghorn roo

Cochin girls: Ruth, Esther, Hazel, Erlene, Martha, Maylene, Lela, Leah,
2 JG girls: J.J. and Bounce

Polish Crested rooster, Montgomery Ward
RIR hen, Alice
EE chicklette, Chickie
2 Buff Orpington chicklettes, Betsy and Violet

It's almost as hard as naming children...

I'm nerdy so all my chicken have noise-related names, because "chicken", "cock", "gallinaceous" all come from roots meaning "noisy" or "song".

My favorite hen is Tympani "Tap". Her name was originally Tap, but then I decided I didn't like it but hubby loved it, so I had to find something it could be a nickname for. Tympani was the best I came up with.

Her best buddy is Meter (after the musical notation). Meter also means "mother" in Greek which I thought fit because she acts so matronly.

The new chick is Melpomene "Mini", which means "choir" in Greek, and is also the muse of tragedy and hope, which is very fitting because Mini had a lot of health problems as a chick. She was almost Shiri, which means "song" in Hebrew but hubby liked Mini better.

Oh yeah, I'm also a name-nerd, so I put way too much thought into these things...

Mine are all named after authors or characters in literature, except for Bug and her two sisters. Bug was always with me as a chick, pooping on important papers, disappearing from the fanny pack I always kept her in, finding every scab she could and pecking at it as though her life depended on it . . . one day I was laying in the grass, just watching the leaves in the trees, when Bug hopped over and deftly pecked my contact out of my eye and lost it in the grass, at which point I asked the chick, "how do you find so many ways to bug me?" And so her name.
I got lucky with the three sisters. Theirs were the only eggs I incubated that year, all three of them hatched, and all three turned out hens. Bug is brown, and one of her sisters is white and the other black, which is almost too perfect for words. I named the black one Lucifer (Lucy) and the white one Gabriel (Gabby), for obvious reasons.

omg temptress! My chick pecked me in the eye once, if my lid hadn't been closed, it would've been quite serious! Those beaks can be dangerous!!! Bug is such a cute name for a chicken, for many reasons! n.n

So far I have 44 chickens but not all have names yet. Here are some of the names so far:
Henny Penny, Henretta, Casper, Lucy, Laverne, Shirley, RC (rooster cogburn), Fawkes, Buckbeak, Pebbles, Bam Bam & Hoppy.

I just gave away 3 roos named Hogan, Shadow and Testi-Cleez.
