whats the point of getting a Guinea?

IMO - and compared to MY roos - they are MUCH louder and I absolutely CANNOT STAND the sound of them! I wanted to like them. I wanted to get some to help with insect control. But I could not live with hearing that awful noise every time I went outside!

(No offense meant here, truly - just offering another perspective.)

My advice would be to go visit someone who has adult guineas so you can see and hear what they're like before you decide on whether to buy some.

Our neighbor has three left out of eight or nine which are on their own, they have become community guineas.

They have "volunteered" to stand guard while we free range our little flock of brahmas and orps in the evening.

One evening last week they alerted to a hawk, which alerted me and the roosters and every bird headed to the run, without any urging from me.

Awesome.

LOL... no offense Guinea noise is not for every one. And yes going to visit a place that has a flock is a very good idea. I personally like em like the noise and the raucous behavior. I have mine for predator alerts. I live 1.5 miles from paved road and 2.0 miles from the Mexican border. Some BLM land in there so I want to know when people are on the property. And Guineas do that for me. Better than geese. And Very very silly.
