What's the point of having button quail?

I could get away with feeding my button quail pair every 3-5 days if i Had to, yet i like to refresh their tiny bowls (their bowl is 3 inches by 3 inches and about 2 inches deep). They're probably cheaper than a parakeet to care for and house.

I have them for the sheer enjoyment of genetics.

I only have Coturnix Quail right now but will be getting King Quail. I think they are even a little smaller than button quail. I have pigeons, rabbits, chickens and of course the Coturnix and everyone wastes a little bit of feed, especially the pigeons. So I plan to use them as "Hoovers" in my aviary and colonies. I plan to use the eggs and extra birds to feed my cats and dogs. I think it might be worth it to butcher a large batch and make a bird stew or even a really good bone stock. I have made deviled eggs with Coturnix eggs and it was fun but can't imagine peeling anything smaller. My cats and dogs can eat quail eggs whole, shell and all.

King quail is another name for button quail. They are also called Chinese painted quail.

You will need to make sure that your king quail get proper nutrition and not just the leftovers from your pigeons. They eat the same diet as your coturnix.

They are different.

Real button quail are not even true quail. King quail and button quail are in completely different families. And yes, I will make sure they get a balanced diet. My pigeons eat a very similar diet to quail already and my rabbits get foraged greens and such, not pellets.

You are correct. When people on here talk about button quail, though, they mean king or Chinese painted quail.
