what's this new noise

my pullets are gonna start laying any day now...fer shure

They've started making this odd loud noise in the morning when they get let out. Since they're stealth chickens I am not thrilled. It's not a crow(all girls) or a loud egg laying BAWWWWK, more like a loud barking sound. Any clues what's up?

I call that their indignant bawk. It usually means someone or something is irritating them. Could be that another pullet ws in the spot she was checking out for her egg. They can be funny.

I had one hen that made a ton of noise when another hen was in her "box". It went on for about 20 min, then she was quite.

I have one that does the barking thing when:

a. She thinks she is due for a snack
b. She wants to be let out of the run to free range
c. She thinks she is due for a snack
d. Someone is on "her" nest
e. She thinks she is due for a snack
f. Someone is on "her" rung of the ladder
g. She thinks she is due for a snack

in short... she is one LOUD, talky hen! But I love her anyways!

LOL-HennyPenny...I have one like that. She makes a loud female crow if I'm feeding the baby chicks and she can see or hear them...as if to say, wheres mine. And then she does a complaint crow when I don't give her the snack she thought I should've.
