Whats this on its ear

Just got in from outta town this guy's got a double head goin on right outta the ear hole. Looks like a smaller one coming around the eye. Birds acting fine no other issues no other birds showing this. Also it's a hard mass not fluid inside.

You can give an antibiotic for secondary infections. There is no cure. It will run its course, probably through your whole flock. Supposedly causes an immunity after it has healed. Only losses are normally due to secondary infections due to the weakened immune system. Most flocks get through it without any treatment.

I'll let it do its thing. Down here in south Alabama aint much you can do for mosquitoes other than feel lucky it just bit him and didn't take his head off lol

Fowl pox is a virus spread by mosquitoes, and more common in the South and in tropical areas. It lasts about a month or more, and most grown birds recover, unless they develop a secondary infection. It is worse on young chicks or poults, since it can cause swelling around eyes and face which can make it hard for them to see and get food/water. There is a vaccine available to give birds who have not been exposed. Here is some reading:
