*what's up w/ Miss Chook?

*Hey- Bit concerned w/ Chook today. She laid yesteday & today is VERY subdued & seems maybe a little warm. She's often quiet the day after-- but not usually THIS quiet. ALL ELSE seems normalish. What do you think?

I would give her some warm oatmeal and put vitamins in her water. Hope she gets to feeling better!

check vent for drainage
check vent/belly area for swelling or heat
check comb and under wings for heat or moisture

if she isn't better after following above suggestions in day or so..or gets worse..
post back and describe symptoms
she might need some antibiotic..
do you have any on hand? if so..what kind?

*Kinda odd-- felt like a definite temp @ lunch- but I spritz'd her feet & rest lightly with water-- by 3 she was almost normal self. Did drink a bit more water b/f bed & went just a little liter than normal on feed. Ya know she's 5 mths plus & never been wormed-- wondering if the feed switch recently aggravated em. >>Thurs a.m.: More vocal & active than yesterday but still feels a little warm & definitely she's cut back on her food intake. She's acting about due to lay again-- Could the laying itself be weakening her???? I have erthromyicin--still in date, the kind that you put in water-- but. . . I'm hestitant to throw antibiotics at her, ya know?? PLUS- this doesn't "feel" bacterial, if that makes any sense.

O.K., I'm gonna chalk this up to a short-term viral --something-- unless I see different. She laid again, & at the momemt seems perfectly happy.

If she's a new layer, it can take a while for her body to get comfortable with it all...It would be like us popping out a baby everyday, Goddess forbid.

I wouldn't give antibiotics unless you were positive that she'd need them.

I agree, she may be just having a hard start and her hormones are all wacky trying to pop out these eggs.

I too always try to avoid antibiotics till the last possible time or unless it is 100% certain there is a huge infection risk or confirmed infection. Giving antibiotics when not necessary = resistant bacteria.

keep watch on the droppings..color and consistency
are they frothy?

the erythro is good..but wait and see how she is..

what all do you feed?
maybe she could use some vitamins and yogurt.

quick change of feed can upset the system
if you have any of the old feed..try mixing the new and old together gradually adding more of the new..
