I was happily browsing along, then these ads started popping up at the bottom of the page. I blew it off the first time, but it has happened a couple times since then! I don't really care that they are there, but they haven't been.

here's a shot:

Ahh! They are there again!

Weird, those shouldn't be there! I'll look into it.

Yes, we're converting our ad serving system to a new platform. It's taken about a week and there are a ton of tricky bits we're trying to work out.

Thanks for being patient with us as we work out the bugs!

Same here. And I have to say I really prefer the ads like that which are a) relevant to the discussion and b) stay put (no bouncing around blinking flash dragging my attention away from the posts.

Nifty, I may be worng, so correct me if I am.

My understanding is that the ads, when you are logged in, are custom chosen for BYC, relating to all things poultry and their care. Most, if not all, are from BYC sponsors.

The ads that appear when you are not logged in are chosen by google and are often customised to your specific computer.

For instance, I was truck shopping online a while back- lately I see more ads for car/truck dealerships in my area. If I search for gardening questions, I get more ads for seeds and gardening supplies. If I look at RPG sites, I'll get ads for them.

Basically, whatever you look at online is going to be tracked and eventually show up to try to entice you again. I used to be an Office Manager/Admin. Assistant. I could go to ANY computer in the many offices and know exactly what people were doing when they were supposed to be working by looking at the ads that popped up in their browser. I didn't have to look at history or anything, just google something or see their facebook page. Sometimes it was uhm......erm....... enough to get them a major warning. One time I actually put a parental block on a guy's computer!

Oh, and another thing- if you're at work and the company's comps are networked? Whoever is the admin can see exactly what you're doing online without leaving their desk!
