What's up with this beak??

Meet Hei Hei, she is an adorable BB red bantam that is about 5 months old, and she has a good size beak. She seems to be happy and eating okay, but I'm concerned that the top beak keeps growing and she is not, she is the smallest of all our chicks. All are female. Any suggestions?

Her beak is overgrown it needs to be trimmed back. Trim it back so that the top is a bit longer than the bottom.

Does it hurt? How do I trim it?

As long as you don’t cut the quick which is the part that has a blood vessel it won’t hurt. Get some dog nail clippers and just snip it off.
Have some corn starch or quick stop powder in case she bleeds.

X2, I've done this with a few of my pheasants and some button quail. Just don't cut it too short!

Thank you! Need to get up my nerve. I just called a vet - they don't typically do this.

If you are real nervous, just snip a little bit at the tip.It will give you confidence and the next day, take some more off. etc
