What's Up With Using Me As A Roost?!

eek, why am I picturing all these chickens on you and and flashing on scenes from the movie "The Birds." Think I'm gonna go lock the doors and windows and hide in my room awhile.

That movie did flash through my mind momentarily, while this was going on!

I do consider myself very lucky, as these are my first flock of chickens and they are great! Of course, there are times when they want to be near me but not be touched and then there are times like this. I like to think it's because they like me, but it's probably just because they associate me with "treats"! Guess I'll take what I can get and enjoy it.

my 4 rirs did that for the first time today too! one of them always used to do that but now all four are doing it!

these are my first chickens and they are sooo sweet. tho i am in complete denial about finding out who is a boy/girl (they came straight run).

i was a little scared about how close they can get to my face tho… should watch that one out.

My girls come sit on my lap each evening before they go to bed. I have 8 buff orpingtons and 1 RIR roo. Sometimes I'll have 5 girls on my lap, one on a shoulder and the rest sitting by my side. I love it! It's my evening ritual. A few of them make the purring noise and nuzzle their heads on me.

I'd love to see a pic of that!

I only have one remaining out of my very first chickens, 6 RIR's. Scratch, the only one I kept, is that way. I guess I spent more time with those babies than any other. But even just now when I went outside to check on critters, I am constantly almost tripping over her, she's always DYING for attention...so funny!

I must get a hat!! I subject myself to regular eyepecking lol I just love it when Perty stands on my shoulder

My Marans did that when they were young. I would go into there pen everynight to make sure they would go in there coop. For some reason these birds just couldn't figure it out. I would sit on a stool with my arm resting against the coop floor. All the birds would perch on my lap, arms and head. When it was time for them to go in I would just slide them off my arm into the coop......... lol. I made sure I had a sweatshirt on so not to get scratched up. They finally figured out they had to go in the coop at night. It was fun while it lasted. They are now extremely nice birds. Even the roo.

If you don't mind poo in your hair etc. You could just wear those plastic protective glasses - you can get cheaply in Walmart or Menards etc. People use them when woodworking, or tree trimming , or to keep chickens from pecking their eyes out. You would still be able to see and enjoy their antics but it protects eyes from the side and front. Wow I just came up with an "off label," use for them. BYC store should offer them - no more squinty eyes, no more e/r trips.
