What's with the Chicken Addiction?

I too am addicted. I've caught the chicken fever. I started out in April with 2 chickens from my first graders class project. Then 2 took us to Tractor Supply for several more. The kid's all lost a lot of interest when it came time to clean up but I became engrossed in them. I began researching breeds I wanted and the excitement of cross breeding came into mind (I want olive eggers). I searched local classifieds and found the Ameraucana chicks I wanted. Long story short, I started ordering from hatcheries to get the breeds I wanted and they make you buy 200 chicks so they can ship them safely (not really 200 but this is how my family looks at me when I say I ordered 15...or 20..more). When my last shipment arrives in late September I will have a total of (brace yourself) 89 chicks.
I plan to butcher 7 cockerels this fall and cull a dozen pullets in early spring. I am currently starting plans for my second coop. The first one I built is 128 square ft. and the second one will be the same size. I live on 2 acres and they freerange daily. I admit it, I am obsessed and no one in my near vicinity shares this passion with me. And I just keep asking myself...why didn't I do this sooner? Next spring I will be giving eggs away. :) Please tell me all of this is normal chicken lover behavior.

Sounds normal to me! I started out with 6 in March, now I'm up to 23. And I have yet to see an egg!,:/
