What's with the "Ovation" feature?

I just noticed the ovation feature. I think it's the equivalent of a "like" button on Facebook. But what is a "unique ovation"?

A ovation means someone found your post to be helpful and/or knowledgeable.

Your unique ovations means how many individual members have given you ovations.
