We have a bunch of chickens, we have had this "belinna" hen for a year, got her as a older hen, not sure how old she is , approx 2-3 years??? maybe more.
for the last week, she has gone downhill. My hubby noticed she was puffed out outside the coop at night, and during the day just hangin out puffed out, sitting quietly. She has always had a bilnd eye, turned grey since we had her. her along with my other RIR hens have had bad feathers for the past few weeks since winter, But B has gone downhill sort of fast. Im concerned but not sure what the deal is.
Im assuming she eating??? she is drinking, and walking okay. but she has gone from one eye blind to seeming like she is more blind. feeling her way around. and her neck is swaying back and forth. Im not sure if she is molting, and just weak? or if she and the other girls have mites? I looked for mites and cant see anything. other girls in the flock are beautiful. I seperated B from the others two days ago. We got garden dust that if cor chickens too, and dusted them today, cleaned the coop, cloroxed perches, scraped poop off the perches and walls etc. sprinkled the floors again. just in case its mites.
the other RIR girls are dull and have broken feathers, bald spots behind there heads and sparce feathering all over body. its mostly with the RIRs and B. some of my BR have it too? what is that???
As for Belinna, Im not sure what the deal is, she is light, not eating too much. I want to try oatmeal or yogurt. she seems to be hanging on. as everyday I feel like I will go out and she will be dead. but she isnt. I dont want to give up and let her starve but I am puzzled as to whats wrong.
any idea?
