I have a 1.5 year old rooster big wyandotte.
Beginning of this summer he was limping. on the bottom of his foot there was a dark spot. I thought this was bumble foot. So, I lacerated 2x the dark spot and pushed out all sorts of mucousy stuff. He slowly improved and seemed to be fine. But the bruising on his toe continues to stay, and the joint seems to be unmovable.
What was improved, now seems to be another issue and he now is limping again, but there is no long any signs of bumble foot.
The toe is now looking very swollen, there is what feels to be a hard object around the base of that joint. I hate to see him in pain. When I soak him in hot water and magnesium I can massage the joint to bend more, But I don't want to do this if its making it worse. chick3.png foot.png untitled.png

Does anyone know why the joint look bruised and why it is swollen? I hate to see him walking in pain. :( :( :(

(I attached another photo of the bottom of his foot, it look clean, no wounds.)

Looks like he injured that one toe that is sticking out off to the side.

I'd soak it in epsom salt water for a while and see if it heals on it's own...I'm not sure there is much that you can do for a broken toe??

I would agree that his toe looks sprained or deformed, from the swelling and bruising. Would you have a local vet who could see him? You might be able to put a pad in the ball of his foot, and wrap some vet a wrap around it for support. But I would be a little suspicious of possibly a joint infection secondary to the bumblefoot, and the vet might rule that out. You can still buy procaine penicillin G in the redrigerated section of your feed stores, if you would like to give him 4-5 days of injections. Dosage is 0.25 ml or 1/4 ml given 1/4 inch deep into his breast muscle once a day for 4-5 days. Get 3 ml syringes with 20 gauge 1/2 inch needles for each day. But your vet could give some oral meds which would be possibly easier.
