What's wrong with my best layer?

Yes, my whole flock (15) has it. The RIWs have the mildest cases, I'm assuming because they sleep in a different coop. The RIW are about two weeks in. I've got more severe cases in my main flock, and a whole separate thread for them.

My roo was patient zero, and he finally perked back up a few days ago. So I'm hoping the we're in the worst of it and will soon be finished.
Oh you poor thing! Sounds like you have had a time lately. Wishing you the very best of luck with your flock! I hope things get better for you and them!

Thank you so much! I've got an awful, achey cold myself and just felt very discouraged all day on the state of my flock. I really take heart from your encouraging words. :hugs

Ok, so maybe this is crazy, but could she just be broody? I tried to give her water this morning and she was not interested. She's much more alert, can hop in and out of the box, but has no interest in the feed or water. She picked a little at the canned salmon, but only the tiniest pieces.

I've had chickens less than three months and never had one go broody. She's not puffed up or growling like descriptions I've heard.

She doesn't look broody to me. She looks sick. Have you checked her mouth for pox? And you need to get fluids in her now. Dehydration can kill quickly. Tube some fluids into her or at the very least, take a small syringe and put water in her mouth (off to the side so it's not down the trachea). Article that helps with tube feeding:

Her mouth is clear. I don't have the equipment for tubing, and I'm stuck til payday. I dripped a tablespoon of water into her last night. I can't remember how much is required per pound of chicken?

I AGREE!! Did you have any gatorade as I mentioned yesterday?

You can do them together. Make sure the water and gatorade is mixed 50/50 with a small amount of corid. An average 4 lb chicken needs atleast 1/2 cup water per day.

Glad to hear she is still with us this morning!

You could offer her foods that are high in water content such as cucumbers, grapes, romaine, melon, etc., if you have any of that. Hard boiled or scrambled eggs are excellent source of protein. Cooked brown rice is good too. I would try to get her to eat and drink something......

From this morning. Is a floppy comb a symptom?

This is after a syringe and a half of Gatorade/corid water.

She picks at the salmon. I added a sprinkle of scratch and she was more interested. So I added a sprinkle of crumbles and she's picking a bit more. I'll check on her again after lunch.
