Except that for the heating pad method to work, the chicks need to be able to make contact with the pad. Your frame is arched too high for the chicks to make contact and properly warm themselves.sorry for ur loss if u r scared of heat lamp ( and I don't blame u) u can do something this simplymy chicks love it they r n my tub this is made from chicken wire formed into a dome a heat pad that u can over ride the auto shut off and the go inside when cold and come out when warm.
I have raised 1 hour old babies this way and they have all lived.
