I found one of my hens lying on the ground, feet behind her, with fluid coming out of her mouth. I picked her up, her head went down and a lot of undigested food came out. She is very thin (hadn't noticed this before). Her comb is pale, but she is still with us. None of the others appears affected. She is not doing well. Does anyone have any ideas? What should I do?

Thanks in advance

When were they last wormed?

When were they treated for lice? Have you noticed any lice?

Was the fluid rancid smelling?

Did you seperate her from the others?

Will she drink? Eat?

Is she warm? Cold?

Any discharge from eyes? Any sneezing, coughing, etc?

Pale comb isn't good, and she may not make it, but to better help try to figure out what could be wrong, we need a bit more info.

Answers to questions:

She is about a year old. She eats layer crumbles and grass. No diarrhea. They need to be wormed. Have not noticed any lice or mites. The fluid looked like wet layer crumbles and water. She has been separated from the others, and I gave her water with honey mixed in. No coughing, sneezing, or discharge. She will drink, haven't tried to feed her.

Let me know if you need more info.

Not an impacted crop if the crop is empty.

Try giving her a favorite treat, or givng her a mash with the normal feed moistened with milk and see if she she'll eat, and can keep it down.

Could be sour crop? I'm not familiar with that.

Try changing the title of your thread and lets see if we can't get someone else to see this that knows more than I do.

Good luck!!!
