Hi, i had a chick hatch on the small side. It seemed to look a little different than the others walked lower so the legs seemed higher up on the body. Now ive noticed the left leg is sticking out more on the one side. The chick seems to hold it upwards but out at an angle, almost like the chick doesn't want to bend the leg. Ive put a hobble on the upper area of the legs to keep them together but she still seems to hold the leg out straight at an angle.
Any advice please. I really dont want to lose her. She hatched on the 4/01/2026

You're doing the right thing to hobble the legs. It looks like it could be disjointed but I've had a couple like that that wound up perfectly fine.

I would also give some Poultry Cell vitamins in their water every other day. The B vitamins, as well as others in that will help her too. Just make sure to alternate pure water every other day so they don't get diarrhea from too many vitamins.

Generally, my experience with splayed legs is they take around 3-4 days. With one like this, it may take two weeks. With splayed legs, I would take the binding off once or twice a day and let the chick run around without it for a few minutes, then back on again. With ones like yours, I found it wasn't changing by me giving the chick a break, and only started to heal up when I left the bindings on for several days.

This is very reassuring thank you. I was worried she may not recover. I will continue with the hobble and hope for the best. Where is it you would place the hobble on the upper legs or lower legs?
Ive isolated her for the meantime so she doesnt get hurt more by her hatch mates however 2weeks seems like a long time to be isolated would you put her back in with the others?
