i have a 2 month old white crested female duck who was one day kind of limping then about 2 days later she cant stand up straight with out leaning on her tail for balance, she is getting a lot slimmer then my drake, i checked her legs to see if they were broken or sprained but her legs were all fine, i am worried about her and there are no vets in my town who take in ducks to check on her and the nearest one is 2 hours away and just for a look it costs $60.00! so i am hoping somebody on back yard chickens will help me and my bird.

( im not sure what to look for for a broken or sprained leg) any info would be awesome. i am worried that she wont make it... if you need picture or a small video of her walking i will post them as soon as i can!

just say if you need them.

My gut feeling is she may be egg bound or have egg yolk peritonitis.

For egg binding, time in a lukewarm tub of water (at least half an hour), and more calcium - like, 100 mg a day for several days - may be what she needs.

If it is e.y.p. she needs antibiotics right away, and may need extra help with eating - I am hoping that just making sure she has plenty of food and treats will do it, but sometimes a duck who has been ill needs to be tube fed.

@casportpony knows more than I do about tube feeding - she has published information here on BYC about it.

thank you! do you need any pics? or are you sure that is whats wrong with her?

Any photo's or video can be helpful. Egg binding and egg yolk peritonitis are two different things.

She may also have another kind of infection or injury.

Do you have drakes? Could she be overmated?

In that case, she needs to be away from drakes.

i have 1 drake but they are not old enough to mate, i will post sone pics and or video as soon as i can, maybe tomorrow. thanks for all of your help!
