I bought some barred rocks from Bomgaars today. They don't let you closer than 6feet to the chicks and you can't handle them until you've purchased them so you have to trust them.

I got home and went to put these in the brooder and noticed this poor little lady can't stand. Is it spraddle leg?...or a deformity? Her toes look like they're at a funny angle.

I called the store and the "chicken expert" told me they were all fine when she put them in the box and they couldn't return it. She had never heard of spraddle leg!

I have never had a chick with this issue so any help you can give me to aid this poor little thing is appreciated.

First I would get some human vitamin B complex tablets and crush 1/4 tablet into some water and give the chick some with a dropper. Or get a chick vitamin that contains riboflavin (B2) and use it as directed—Poultry NutriDrench does not have it, but Poultry Cell and some others do.

The vitamins could help, but it looks a bit like a leg deformity. Or possibly a dislocated hip. The toes are curling under which can be a ribflavin deficiency. You can tape the toes to flatten them in a normal position. I would show these pictures to the feed store and get a replacement chick tomorrow. I hope that you can help the chick, but some leg problems can be permanent.

I have heard of their feet being pointed outwards but I have never seen them crossed. I will do some research and let you know what I find out. I am curious to know why this happened!
