What's wrong with Thor's feet? (feather footed) A PIC

We'll try that tomorrow when my DH is off.
How many times do I need to repeat the treatment?
Thor is a good roo, but he'd really prefer I not be toting him around.

I've heard every 7 days.

However, we were talking leg mites on another board and I thought about it a bit - if you really think it is (and I highly suspect it), I'd consider something like an ivermectin product to kill the mites first - then using olive oil and the neosporin on top instead. The ivermectin will kill the mites, the oil on top of the legs will finish the job and hopefully keep others from getting in there. Then you'd treat with ivermectin once, the oil every 7 days.

dlhunicorn came up with treating with the 1% injectable (by putting on - not injecting) on the legs first - and then doing the olive oil (as vaseline is harder to remove). Then repeating I believe.

We both had about the same idea - mine would go systemic (pour-on - 1 to 6 drops on the back of the neck depending on the chicken's size), hers would be topical. Then suffocating whatever was left.

I still would mix neosporin in whatever (oil or vaseline) you put on the legs for that redness.

Just what you needed - more options!

Thanks again, but...I noticed today that almost all the redness and swelling is gone and while he still looks funny with the feathers gone on one foot, it doesn't look half as bad as it did in that pic.

i ALWAYS FOUND THAT THE CHICKEN COOP NEEDS CLEANING AS THAT IS WHERE THE BIRD GOT THE LICE OR MITES

AND i USUALLY PUT ON THE FOOT OF THE BIRD CAMPHOPHNEQE
by pouring it all over the foot
and then standing the bird in a container of Sevin 5% insect dust

this allows the bird to absorb the oil treatment and smother the mites and then kill the mites

it is advisable to put the bird in a pen by himself and keep adding some kind of oil
olive oil, sweet oil, any kind of oil

as for the shed
clean every thing out of it
now take
1 qt of new car oil
1 qt of kerosene
and mix good and paint the wooded area's of the barn
paint the roost poles and cracks and knot holes in the wood as that is where the mites live and breed then go to the birds

now sprinkle the DE very liberally and the sevin 5% all over the floor and then add the beding

this allows the birds to get the sevin on their feet also

I didn't do anything! That's why I'm so confused. The severe angry looking redness was just gone?

I haven't been out to the coop yet this morning, so I'll have a good look at them again. I also plan on going ahead with the treatment you outlined just in case.
