I'm so tickled that I can finally join in posting to threads about roosters!!!! A little better than a week ago, this fine and handsome young man came to us from our friends and neighbors up the road a piece. The little sneak broke quarantine prematurely and so he got to bunk in with his ladies earlier than I had wanted him to. Just as a safety precaution mind you. But he hasn't shown the least indication of any illness, and so far,
knock on wood,
all of the girls are acting normal and show no signs of illness either!
Outside of that little bit of naughtiness, he's been a dream come true for me. I've wanted a roo of my own for sooooo long! But, when your local feed stores offer only pullets in the annual sale, you take what you can get and hope that somebody made a mistake at the hatchery. Or, you wait around long enough and your neighbor offers you one of their roo's that they had hoped would be a pullet!!
I've named him Griffin....DH, who is never satisfied with the names I give any of our animals and always insists on giving them nicknames, has given Griffin two nicknames: "Merv" and "Roto"...as in "Roto-Rooster"
Yeah, that's what I thought too!
No matter...I love him to pieces.
So, without further ado, presenting Griffin, 10 month old (estimated) Blue Wyandotte:
He's just a little man now, but growing up fast and taking his responsibilities very seriously already!
