Don't know if this is the right place to post this or not but here goes. After the twister in April, we had our yard torn up removing debris. We were planting new grass and we had a left over bale of wheat straw. It had a few bugs in it so I gave it to the chicks. We just cut the strings and threw the blocks of straw around the pen. Our chicks love this stuff. They have spread it out all over the pen and seem to love to scratch around it. Today while having an afternoon drink out by the chicky pen, we watched them scratch and hunt bugs. It was fun seeing them chase bugs and hunt around the straw for more. Ya'll might want to try this. seems like our chicks love it.

I use wheat straw in winter 8 inches deep and also to fill nest boxes. I think most of us do that as well as use it on the floor.
