OK, this is really my first batch of wheaten chicks and I know I have a blue pullet, not sure about the roos color. I had a roo before this guy and they looked similar and he was blue. So if you want to offer opinion on his color I would appreciate it.

First the Roo

Wheaten or Blue Wheaten?

Here are some of the chicks.....

Color and gender if you can tell for all please.

Chick #1

Chick #2

Chick #3

Chick #4

Chick #5

If you can tell me what you based your opinions on for color and gender so I can learn.

Thanks!

I am not an expert on this breed, but genderwise, can you take pictures of the comb/face bits so we can have a better look.
They are all cuties tho!!

The comb will be of no help on gender with these. I have some that are 3 months old and I still can't tell by the combs. These will be sexable by their feathers soon enough.

Color is more important to me right now. I just can't tell.

I couldn't tell on mine until the feathers on the back of the neck started to come in!

Give it another week and you'll be able to tell gender (white or colored neck feathers) and male coloring (black/blue/splash)

Oh yeah - and the ones with the really light wings are usually splash males!

Well we will just have to take more pics in a week or 2...... Got any idea on color? Do you see a splash in that bunch?

I'm used to salmon Faverolles, but the color pattern is similar enough that I'll take a shot at sexing them.

I think your roo is a blue wheaten. I think chicks 1-3 are pullets, while 4 and 5 are cockerels. I don't see a splash cockerel, and if the pullets follow the same rules as Faverolles then you can only tell splash/blue females by down color. Splash hens will have white down, and white trim on their primaries. Splash males tend to be more noticable. I know this is a Fav but I believe they're similar enough. Splash salmon cockerel.

I was kinda think about the same on the roos and pullets.... but #2 I kinda thought was a roo. I will give them a few more weeks and see what we really get. Thanks! and I hope we are both right about the roos

Only one I question myself on is #5. May be a pullet, but more feathers and you'll know.

Are you saying that the males will have Blue Black or Splash color on the neck feathers? I was looking at them pretty hard today and I am only seeing one that is turning into a roo..... but most of the others have buff in the neck feathers. You got any pics of them while they were growing out of what you are talking about????????

I still feel like the really light one is a splash

the only "blue" I see is VERY VERY faint....almost white and some feathers are just white.....

I will charge the batteries and get new pics of these.... and maybe the new babies too.
