Hi David,
Do all European countries use the same colour card for grading Marans eggs? Is it possible to order a European colour card? If so from who?
Joe

I have a golden comet that lays a solid #4 egg LOL!! She really does, sometimes it is a #5! She doesn't have feathered feet though so she can't be French. I won't tell her

Whatever you did, keep doing it, that is a nice male.

Note the tail coverts and the width of the tail feathers......excellent wing carriage and overall conformation. There are things I can't determine by a picture (width of body, weight etc), but that is one of two of the best male Marans I have seen so far. The other was a blue red I believe.

Good job!!

That's a beautiful rooster berkleysprings.....You didn't "freeze" him, did you ?

Thoughts about hen color.....I read somewhere that using the darker hens would help with the under color on males if you needed to work on a male line. My understanding of the comment was that it was in the context of setting up a male line breeding group. I would like to hear from David on that issue when he has time. I, for one, would really appreciate some thoughts on what to use in setting up a male breeding group and a female breeding group for a double mating program.

The discussions are interesting and helpful. We can learn by sharing.

Besides the fact that you sent him to the freezer ( give you a little

Hens with darker coloring, especially on the chest, will also add problems, though, like red leaking into the chest and too dark of plumage in general.

Berkeleysprings sister here - yes, freezer camp! Can you believe it. And that roo was one of the ones that used to follow our mom around all the time. Maybe next time he'll listen to me and not rid us of the roos quite so quickly! What do you think? You think he'll listen to me now? I would say that's still a big "NO"! Afterall, I am "little sis", and who ever listens to little sis? LOL
