Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Jan, I have heard the group that drew up the BC standard is working on the wheaten, but have no idea how far along they have got. The show is set up for Crossroads in October. I ask a few days ago if anyone had heard anything and have not seen anything yet. Until the Proposed standard is finalized not much to say here.

If the thread gets too stale from lack of use we can just "bump" it with a pic or something and then ppl will find it again...

wouldthat mean a seperate breeding line for hens that are light and sepperate line of roosters for sop.
i would hate to see that , how could they qulify for apa if u cant breed a hen and roo that looks nice if the offspring comes out bad , to me thats not breeding ture , i thought that is what the apa wants , is for people to show they breed true

here is some more pictures of my stock and how there feathering in , they are still very young just a few months old perhaps 3 months , ,,,, had a accident with my breeder roo and he lost alot of blood from a toe that he puilled off fighting threw a fence i couldnt stop the bleeding very quickly , it was throbing blood , hope he makes it threw the night buti am not worried , i have my origonal davis roo and 10 more roo from breeding this year that came from the hert roo early today i saw all the blood , he is by his self in a grow out coop , this is some picsof hens he produced i think the young pullets are feathering out very well and wont be to dark

Randy, In a perfect world we should be able to just throw two wheaten in a pen and come out with all show quality Marans. Most parti colored fowl to get really good quality show birds it is necessary to breed to the double mating system.

Berk: I think that is a good way to put it... I did breed decent (not perfect) type to decent type and got good offspring both male and female this round... They are not going to win any ribbons but they did breed true to type from fairly decent colored parents...Not perfect.. Other's bird would likely whoop the pants off these in the showpen, but they did breed close to type... The melanisers are weak but in my birds in particular they do get full color by 7 or 8 months...

I will go out and get a pic or two..

to me the way i would like to understand it as fallows .breeding true means off spring would have no dq faults ,the operativre word is disqulifing faults to me breeding true would not mean breeding perfect birds it would mean ofspring could have faults but still be considered breeding true ,
