I purchased a dozen wheaten Marans eggs and had 4 hatch. Two are solid yellow as expected but two have a stripe on their head. The Marans club of Australia where I’m located says “the down of wheaten is essentially clear cream in colour, although small dorsal head spots are common”
but these are a larger stripe and most Marans people on FB are mostly saying it means they aren’t pure wheaten and will end up with darker patterns in the feathers. A few saying their pullets often have these markings.
I’ll be banding them to see how they feather out but wondering what others thoughts are
