Wheezing hen! HELP!

If you can't go get a fan today, is it cooler in the house? In the basement? Is there a room with a ceiling fan? Put her and a favorite buddy of hers in a large dog crate somewhere cooler (and calm, quiet, comfortable, dimly lit) than what's she's been exposed to. You may not have the luxury of time. Chickens can easily die from too much heat.

It was nearly 100 frickin degrees with heat index here in NJ today - way way too hot too suddenly, so I imagine it is perhaps even hotter in georgia. I keep ice in their water, provide nice cold watermelon and/or other cold fruit, fans and yes, even finally an AC last summer when we had stinkin hot sweaty heat index over 100 day after day after day. It was the only way I could have peace of mind while at work. Hope this isn;t the beginning of another brutal summer - the next several days promise to be like today....

Is your coop under the trees? We built all of ours where they'd be mostly shaded. It's much easier to provide a heat lamp in the winter than provide cool during the summer. I am in Jesup, Ga. It was 100 here yesterday. Haven't had any issues with the chickens so far. I hope she is okay!

I hose my pens down several times a day when it's hot. I just point the water hose up in the air and let it mist all over them. They seem to enjoy it. The cat litter boxes with ice in them sound like a good idea. You can also freeze jugs of water and they can lay next to them.

My run is half covered and shaded the other half isnt. The coop isnt much cooler but it seemed this afternoon when it cooled down it wasnt wheezing as bad. I gave some grapes and put some ice in the water. I plan on getting another fan this weekend. I may look for some at a garage sale.
I think she is alright now because it is much cooler
Thank you all so much for your help!
ps i dont have a basement and there really isnt anywhere cooler unless i put her in complete shade.
