Hi Everyone. My 2 year old buff came out of the coop this morning and is making a strange wheezing noise when she breaths. Checked for drainage or swelling. Nothing. almost think there is something stuck in her windpipe. Any Ideas to help her.
Yes, it could be an obstruction in the trachea. Without respiratory symptoms such as, sneezing, nasal discharge, and especially lung rattling, it does seem to point to obstruction. It is possible for a small seed to have gone into the trachea. I am not sure if a vet could do anything, but, perhaps you could take her to one and find out.
You can see how a tiny seed can accidentally go down the trachea, instead of the throat.
There is still a possibility that the chicken has congestion in the lungs. I am currently treating a hen for this very thing. I was surprised to hear my vet say it was congested lungs. I also had the same thing happen to a rooster years ago. They had no other symptoms. However, both became critically ill, stopped eating, and started to become sleepy. Treatment started with a humidifier to improve breathing. Then, medication and supportive care. So the sooner you get a correct diagnosis, the better.
Thanks Hen Pen Jem. I got out the humidifier and got RXVet to see if it helps if is lung congestion. Since its Sunday I can not call the vet until tomorrow.
