HI All - I have an EE about 4 months old - she and my other 2 are out in the backyard getting some sun. I noticed that Cleo is almost wheezing - its a loud sound and then after a minute or 2 she makes a loud noise and then resumes wheezing. Is this something I should be concerned about? Its almost as if she has chicken hiccups. She is walking around and nibbling on grass etc and doesnt seem as if she is in distress at all.....but i am worried!

It sounds like to me she has a bad cold. And when she makes that loud noise, she's trying to get it out of her lungs and throat. If it was me I would give her some antibotics. I use the kind that you mix in their water and it turns it yellow. I can't think of the name right now, but your local feed store should have it. Also, check and see if she has some gunk around her nostrils. That is also a sign of a "cold". Kinda like humans, they can get colds too!

Hope this helps and good luck!

The hiccup sound is a symptom of gapeworm. Can you look in her mouth to see if you can see the worm. Scroll down a bit on this site to find more info on this parasite.

I would not recommend starting any antibiotics until you know what you are dealing with. Treating incorrectly can often make problems worse.
