Whelp. I asked before but 90% sure I got a Roo. Pics.

Attaching a pic at the end of my Ameraucana lavender hen, but the splash pretty sure turned out to be a roo. The pea comb is getting darker, and my kids found him mounting a hen today — 14 weeks old. That splash is a roo, huh I can’t have roosters where I live. Such a beautiful bird too!

Am I wrong? Seems the heckles around the neck and the tail feathers point to roo….

I posted same question a few weeks ago but older pics, seems more prominent now..? Happy if I’m wrong lol.

He’s a cockerel. I’ve noticed with true Ameraucanas in particular that they can be sexed by those long downward pointed tail feathers as the hens will not have those. Every single male I have seen has had those long tail feathers at a younger age whereas the females don’t. I attached a picture of what my splash Ameraucana pullet looked like at 14 weeks of age. Tail feathers are uniform and pointed upward.
Edit: Forgot to also add that the other obvious signs he’s a cockerel is the large red comb (large for an Ameraucana) and the mounting at that age.

I’m going to say that’s a cockerel. I’m not 100% sure, but those tail feathers look a little too droopy to belong to a pullet.

Amazing how fast they grow. This is him less than a month ago! The comb is much more red now and the feathers so much more pronounced than they were just a few weeks ago.

Cockerel. You can tell by the sattle feathers on the tail, plus the rusty red color on the wings. (Male trait)
