Put 12 eggs into lock down on evening of the 9th Sunday, Monday at noon 6 piped that evening 2 out of egg 2 with beak stuck through shell watch for a while no movement. So I pulled plastic lid from top and took out these 2 egg, open up and sure enough dead. The other 2 I broke away the top of the shell they worked there way out 1 okay the other I don't think is going to make it.

Now I had 3 more pip this morning and this evening there has been no progress so I broke enough away to see inside the egg could see there beak and they are moving. From the size of the whelps so far I am wondering if they are able to move around and chip the egg away, and the eggs seem to be really hard shells when I broke a little away. The temp. has been running 99 to 100 degrees and the humidity had been running 70 to 80 percent.

So do I wait until morning and see if they are out?

And if not if they are still alive do I leave them or break away the top of the egg and leave them to get out on there own from there.

Thanks for any advise.

I would intervene only if the poults you have examined so far pipped into a nice large dry air sac. It is urgent if the dead ones looked tightly bound by their membranes, also called shrink wrapped. That is caused by the eggs losing too much water prior to lockdown. The membranes need to be moistened without causing the poult to aspirate. Humidity then needs to be kept high to keep the membranes from drying back out. It works sometimes.

If they did not lose enough water prior to lockdown they will drown when they break into the air sac/pip. Would love to hear a way to save poults or chicks in an egg that has too much liquid. Have had a couple of marans chicks with really thick dense shells that drowned and could do nothing to help them.

I waited 24 from when my first turkey started hatching and it was dead at 8pm it was alive that afternoon. Someone said on here in regards to my turkey that once it has made the air hole it has already pipped the inside and been 10 hours at least....don't know but if I can find my old post I will post it here for you.
