When a hen is wearing a saddle, should...

Thanks Princess and Dawn. I took it off of Doe late last night while I do some more brainstorming. I was hoping she would wear it overnight and be used to it by morning, but...

Her temporary roost is right outside the front door and all night long she was banging against things, flopping around on the porch like a fish out of water. I'm going to try to find my homemade one today; it's single strap (one strap, each wing). I don't dare put her out in the flock without one; her side is almost healed and I don't want it broken open again.

Its a sort of apron that goes over their backs. Usually they are used so that a rooster mounting them won't take out their feathers.

Alot of mine will get easily miffed when I clothe them and will do the moonwalk for the first 3 days.

It's a process.

That's how Belle was. She was Thor's favorite and wore her saddle for over a year. Strange thing, I took it off of her during her yearly molt. Once she was finished molting, I left it off because Thor never tore up her feathers again. I know he was still mating her; I guess he just got better at it.
