I live in Florida too. I replaced the heat lamp with an regular low wattage light at about 8 weeks. I put it on a timer. I wanted to make sure they layed and I had heard that they slow down when the days get shorter, so I wanted to be sure they had enough light. They never skipped a beat with their laying. They were hatched the first of Oct. and started laying in Feb. I did leave the heat lamp in the coop, and nights that were below 40 degrees, the heat lamp would go on. I put the heat lamp on a timer too. I know I spoil them.
