When are ostrich chicks available?

There are definitely some scams out there. The most prolific on ostriches is from some individuals located overseas. They post in several ag-related classifieds and Craigslist locations around the country. They usually include wording about being "candle tested" on the fertile eggs. Often, they are also selling parrots. They have been known to copy content from legitimate ostrich ranch websites in the U.S. and set up their own websites--making it look very convincing. As far as ostriches from outside the U.S., all hatched chicks (including from imported eggs for hatching) must go through a USDA quarantine for at least 30 days and meet several other disease testing protocols. So, chances are, if any are being offered from outside the U.S. (other than Canada), it will likely be a scam because of the costs involved in bringing live chicks into the U.S. As always, be sure to NOT send a deposit without verifying that any ostriches are truly available and the offer is legitimate.

I'm looking for ostrich chicks at the moment in the Phoenix area.
How did you fare with the chicks that were for sale in California?
Did you wind up buying any?
