when are the paper towels no longer needed?

I decided on using paper towels in our brooder over pine shavings, how long do you use them??

Also how often do you clean/replace the paper towels? I have been doing it once a day and even removing some shavings sometimes. Is this enough or should I remove the towels more often?? We have 10 chicks that are 5 and 4 days old.

I change to pine shavings as soon as they are eating and drinking. Some folks never use paper towels at all. I'd remove them now.
