How soon after mating are chicken eggs fertile?

After mating, how long do the eggs stay fertile?

I posted this question last week about turkey eggs and someone replyed that if turkeys where the same as chickens it would be 1 week. hope thats acurate.

I read it takes 24 hours, and then they can be fertile for up to four weeks, but it is best it the first two or so.

Anyone with more experience?

Three days if you figure how long it takes an egg to develope to laying size.
