I have 2x7 weeks old Silver Laced Wyandotte and 4x6 weeks old Speckled Sussex. They are still in a rather large brooder but flying around like crazy so I am thinking it's time for them to go outside. The day time temperature outside is in the the 50s ; we built a separate coop just for the babies right behind the big coop so all the chickens can see each other.
I like to get them outside a few hours during the day time so they are getting used to go outside but going back in the brooder at night. Would it be okay to put them outside for a few hours with temperatures of around 50.
I do work but could come home during lunch break to take them outside and back in around 5 pm when I am back home. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated?
They are getting a bit crazy in the brooder. I am still new to chicken - this is my second batch I am raising but this time in the winter time. Thanks

Chicks can start going outside on mild days when they are two weeks old. By age three weeks, chicks no longer require heat during the day as long as it's anywhere above freezing. By age six weeks, they need no more heat and could be living in a coop as regular chickens.

Thank you helping me making my decision. They will go outside tomorrow where they have much more space. The coop is very much wind protected and safe. Plus both sets of chicken can see each other.

Our 6-week-old silkies have been outside since hatching. They have no momma hen. To be honest, it shocks me that they've been out in 20°F frolicking. They aren't even fully feathered and have been doing that for weeks. They have a huge pen, and a hutch inside has a cozy coop radiant heater in it. They'll run into the hutch for a few minutes, then out they come for more.

Omg it sounds like they are the cutest silkies ever. I will put them outside tomorrow at least for a few hours so they get used to it. They are getting very rambunctious in the brooder just getting too big. Their coop is safe and we took extra precaution to protect them from rain and wind. Plus they can see my 10 adult chickens.
Aren't chicken too much fun! I love it. Thank you for sharing.
