When can I be expecting eggs?

Howdy yal!
I have 3 silkie hens. They will turn 7 months old September 9th. I was wondering if yal have an idea of when they will start laying eggs? Thanks in advance!

Are they reddening up? Squatting? I don't have silkies, but those are signs that they are getting ready to lay. I would expect 7 month old birds to BE laying. Do they have a hidden nest?

From what I know they don’t have a hidden nest, but they do free range so it is possible. I haven’t seen them squat but they have been letting my roosters mate them more. I will see if they have redder combs. Thanks for your help!

a few of my birds started laying at 18 weeks and a few started at 29 weeks i think it just depends on the bird

Silkies are different from other breeds, they can begin laying anywhere from 6 months to a year. The only way you tell for sure with a Silkie is just to look for the signs listed above

Howdy yal! One of my silkies has FINALLY been starting to do the “squat”! It’s been going on for about a week. When can I expect to get that one, sweet egg?

Measuring pelvic points might another clue(see link below).
Messing around in the nests is the closest clue to eggs very soon.

Thank you! I opened up the nesting box today and she has already made her nest. I hope that I’ll see a silkie egg soon!
