When can I candle a dove egg?

I'm not sure how long I have to wait before candling and also if I even should. I have read they are quite delicate. Is there much risk to them if I candle?

If its a fairly safe thing to do. When do I do it and is it easy to tell its fertile? I've never candled anything before.

I candle my pigeon eggs after about a week. There is no problem with pigeon eggs. A true dove egg is a bit smaller (I have no experience with doves). Then again some people use the terms pigeon & dove interchangeably.
